Northern Lights

Lyrics and Music by Dave LeMieux

Well I’ve seen the Northern Lights from a quiet Seattle shore

I’m going back to say a prayer and to be moved by the mystery once more

As a boy, I thought that it was God’s little way of guiding the ships lost at sea

And even though I’m older now, well I’m not ashamed to say

That I could use a guiding light on me.

On the wind, my mama’s words, “…boy in everything there is something good.”

There is truth there to be sure.  I’d be sure if I only could.

Now the carefree smiles of my sand-castle youth have all but eroded away.

I grew up singing “Jesus loves me,” but never seemed to need the proof.

But that’s exactly what I’m asking for today.

I wish the Northern lights were a signal fire from heaven,

‘cause that would make it easy then to turn and find my way.

I wish the rising tide could wash away my wandering footsteps,

God, if there are new beginnings, won’t you grant me one today?

Well I’ve seen the Northern Lights from a quiet Seattle shore

And I’m back to say a prayer and to be moved by the mystery once more

If I cast my cares like a net into the sea, would they drift like the wood to Your side?

And is there still a place in Your heart for wayward ones like me?

‘Cause if there is then I know I’ll be alright.

I’m in the dark, but You’re my Northern Light.
